How to Send a Free Gift to your Subscriber After they have opted in…
I was recently asked “how to send a free gift to your subscriber after they have opted in?”… and here is another question “I want to give an eBook away, How do I attach my Free eBook AFTER they have completely opted in to my list?”.
The second question is definitely the way you want to set your free product up to go to your prospective customer. You want to give them their free products/gift after they have went through the full optin process.
So, really what’s the best way?
Well, before I answer that I want to address a common mistake that people often make of not protecting their downloads.
You’ll be surprised at how many people still put the download(s) onto their thank you page. Meaning that once the visitors have filled out the optin form, the page they are taken to ( Thank You Page) is where the free products/gifts are.
You may think this is putting the free products/gift into your subscribers hands quickly, and while you are, what if they provided a fake email address? It’s not so good now, because you have a no good optin and they have your free product. Totally not cool, right?
Not having your free products available on your thank you page ultimately gives them 2 options:
A. Not get your free products or gift
Or
B. Go back and provide a good email address to get your products/gift if they did indeed provide a fake email address.
So here is the answer to your question…
Provide a Secure download of your free products or gift.
I am sure there are several ways to do this, but I will share with you a few ways that have worked for me. Several are real easy and will get the job done.
You want to provide your subscribers who go through the entire optin process, including confirming their email address, your free products/gift. Here are a couple guidelines and suggestions.
1. Your thank you page should thank them for connecting with you and divert them to their email address to click on the link within the email to confirm them receiving information from you.
Let’s say your domain name is yourdomain.com, you could have yourdomain.com/thankyou.html (just an example, you can name it whatever you like) and this is where you would put your thank you page.
It may be nice to have a video where you are thanking them, or you may just want to have text on the thank you page, whichever you prefer, either will work. If you are using Aweber they offer several options for you.
Below is an image of a 1 of the options that Aweber offers or again you can customize it your own page and place the customized link in Aweber.
2. Have your free products/gift on your website that is a hidden page. Ex: yourdomain.com/lkiurty7chgdtifjgh.html or it could be .zip for instant download to their computer. When your subscriber receives the confirmation email in their inbox and they click on the link to confirm, they will receive another email from you that typically thanks them again for confirming their subscription, and whatever else you want it to say.
In this email you can have the link inside for them to click on and go the secret download page above and download the free products/gift, OR have the confirmation page within Aweber set up to take them to the free products/gift page. However you would like to do it, is up to you. Either way works fine.
3. Another option, is if it is indeed an eBook or a few small files that you want to send , you can attach it to your first follow-up message that goes out immediately after they have subscribed. That way you won’t have to worry about your download URL being made public.
4. The last option I will discuss here is a product called DLGuard. DLGuard has a various number of uses, allows you to protect your downloads all while offering a secure sales management system. One license allows you to use it on two websites. I normally recommend this for a site where you are selling your own/resale rights products and you want to protect your downloads and make sure the link is not able to be shared. Since they are allowing you to use it on two websites, you may want to use it to protect your free downloads as well. Click here to check it out.
** If you plan on putting your free products/gift on your website as a hidden link like discussed in #2 above for your subscribers to download AFTER they have confirmed their subscription to your list, you will need to upload the free products/gift to your website via a FTP client like Core FTP or FIlezilla. Make sure to upload them to the /public_html/yourdomain.com folder. You will probably name it .html, .jpg, .pdf, or .zip.
So as you see my friend, there are quite a few options that you have when it comes to how to send a free gift to your subscriber after they have opted in, and I’m sure I missed some options, but these are the solutions that have worked for me with no problems. I hope that you enjoyed this tip and found it helpful.
To Your Success,
